How to Make AI Write Like You
Does your AI-generated content sound… a bit too much like an AI?
The problem with most LLMs (Large Language Models) is that they are trained on the “average” of the internet. Without specific guidance, they default to a polite, slightly corporate, and ultimately forgettable tone. They love to “delve” into topics and “unleash” potential.
If you want to break through the noise, you need to make AI write like you. Here are three actionable tips to transform your AI outputs from generic to genuine.
1. Meta-Prompting: The Style Guide Hack
Instead of just telling the AI to “write in a professional tone,” use the AI to analyze your own best work.
Take 3–5 of your best-performing emails, articles, or social posts and feed them into the LLM with this prompt:
“Analyze the following text for syntax, sentence length variety, vocabulary choices, and tone. Create a ‘Style Guide Prompt’ that I can use to make you replicate this exact voice in future outputs.”
This “Meta-Prompt” becomes your secret weapon. It defines your unique “Brand DNA” in a way the AI can actually follow.
2. Few-Shot Prompting & Negative Constraints
AI learns best by example. Don’t just give it instructions; give it a “Good vs. Bad” list.
- Good Example: “Short, punchy sentences. High-energy. Uses industry-specific jargon like ‘GEO’ and ‘Conversion Moats’.”
- Bad Example: “Passive voice. Over-explaining simple concepts. Using ‘buzzwords’ like ‘game-changer’ or ‘disruptive’.”
You should also set Negative Constraints. Tell the AI exactly what NOT to do. List your forbidden words (e.g., “delve”, “tapestry”, “shiver”) and banned sentence structures.
3. Rhythmic Injection: Breaking the Cadence
One of the biggest “AI tells” is a monotonous sentence rhythm. AI tends to write sentences of almost identical length.
To fix this, instruct the AI to follow a 1-3-1 structure:
- One short, punchy opening sentence.
- Three medium-length sentences that provide detail.
- One short, final sentence to drive the point home.
This creates a “rhythm” that feels human and keeps the reader engaged.
